Alberta Strong

This week has been a hard one for Canadians. We watched, horrified and shocked as a town in Alberta literally burned to the ground while over 80,000 people were evacuated from their homes, many left with whatever was on their backs not knowing if they’ll ever see home again.

I can’t even imagine what that would feel like. Every image brings tears to my eyes.  But out of the ashes is something amazing. Seeing Canada come together to help those affected swells my heart with pride and restores my faith in humanity. That’s the thing about tragedies, you see the humanity and compassion in people. People with next to nothing out there trying to find ways to help.  It’s really beautiful.
This story of the refugees getting together what little they could because they know, possibly more than most of us, how it feels to literally be torn away and lose everything in a moment is a real testament to compassion.

This week has been hard for Canada, but it’s been filled with compassion and humanity. This week I’m proud to call Canada home.
