When I Was Younger

When I was younger I played baseball. I wasn’t any good, but my grandparents were always there to cheer me on. They sat in the bleachers during practices, and never complained or acted bored.I danced, not gracefully, but they were at every recital. My grandmother sat outside the door waiting for me to finish my lessons three times a week, after a long hard day at work. She always had a smile on her face. I never really gave it a second thought.

When I was younger we took car trips to the country all the time. They always stopped at the fish place I loved, made the time to take me horseback riding, and to my favourite beach so I could swim.

When I was younger I couldn’t remember a time when they weren’t there for me, when they didn’t show me their love even when I probably least deserved it.

When I was younger I couldn’t wait to grow up, to have my own life, to be  an adult.  I never stopped to think that as I got older, so would they, and that one day they’d be gone. That I’d miss them so much. That I’d one day dream of, and even wish that I could go back to, the time when I was younger.
